Cultivating the Future: The Tuscany Regenerative Agriculture Scholarship
€ 3,000 awarded
TEF is proud to support the Climate Farmers project Tuscany Regenerative Agriculture Scholarship, aimed at contributing train a new generation of experts capable of supporting Tuscan farms in their transition towards a regenerative agricultural model that is resilient and able to withstand the impacts of climate change.
Climate Farmers is Europe’s largest regenerative farming network, whose mission is to facilitate knowledge exchange by thinking globally but acting locally.
Background
Within the Italian context, Tuscany stands out as a pioneering region: areas managed under organic farming methods currently account for approximately 36.5% of the regional agricultural surface, compared to a national average of 20.2% (CIA). However, several challenges remain, including generational renewal, as well as the need for greater supply-chain integration and improved product valorisation.
Project
The project will select a highly motivated agronomy student based in Tuscany who is eager to develop skills in regenerative agriculture. The selection will take place through a competitive process in collaboration with Tuscan universities.
The successful candidate will take part in an advanced training programme alongside an international group of farmers, agronomists, and expert consultants, combining theoretical learning with hands-on field experience. All practical activities will be carried out on a regenerative agriculture farm in Tuscany.
The scholarship will be awarded only to candidates who commit to working in Tuscany after completing the programme and who have existing ties to the region or a clearly demonstrated intention to build their professional future there, along with a strong motivation to work in regenerative agriculture.
We strongly believe this scholarship will broaden participants’ horizons while also offering a meaningful opportunity for young people, who often face significant barriers to accessing training and employment opportunities.
The selection process will start approximately in April 2026, with the training taking place from September 2026 to February 2027. Additional details will be announced soon.
Update May 2025 – How to apply
TEF is proud to support n.1 scholarship for an agronomist to participate in the project by Climate Farmers, the leading European network for regenerative agriculture, in partnership with Tenuta San Carlo which will cover the accommodation costs at their farm. An intensive 6-month training program designed to provide with the necessary skills to transition Tuscan farms toward regenerative agriculture.
The scholarship will remove financial barriers for a highly motivated Agronomy student/Agronomist who will join an advanced training programme alongside international farmers, agronomists and expert consultants, combining theoretical learning with hands-on field experience.
Priority selection criteria:
- existing ties to Tuscany or a demonstrated intention to work in the region
- clear motivation to work in regenerative agriculture (assessed through interviews and references)
- personal cover letter and ideas on how regenerative agronomy could bring improvements to Tuscany
- knowledge of English is required, as some sessions will be held in that language
Commitment of the student
The scholarship will be awarded to candidate who agrees to pay an upfront deposit of €250 upon registration which will be reimbursed by TEF upon completion of the training programme.
Timeframe
Applications: submitted by 26/06/26 by completing the form below
September ’26: participant will spend one month on his/her first training farm somewhere in Europe (food and accommodation covered / travel expenses to be covered by the participant)
October ’26: participant will spend one month on his/her first training farm somewhere in Europe (food and accommodation covered / travel expenses to be covered by the participant)
Nov-Dec ’26: participant will learn from the leading global regenerative agronomists and also accompany some of them on consultations to learn firsthand (online sessions)
January-February ’27; the participant will spend 6-8 weeks on a Transition Farm possibly in Tuscany.
The final graduation project involves developing a transition plan for the farm, led by an expert agronomist (food and accommodation covered / travel expenses to be covered by the participant)
After completion of the training
The scholarship is designed as a practice-embedded pathway so upon successful completion of the Regenerative Agronomy Training, Climate Farmers commits to:
- Integrate the graduate into advisor and implementation network
- Assign the graduate to concrete on-farm advisory and implementation work in Tuscany, as and when projects arise
- Support the transition into a paid junior agronomy / advisory role, either directly with Climate Farmers or with one of the regional partner organisations operating in Tuscany.
The graduate will therefore not be “trained and released” but actively deployed into real transition projects after the program.
Expected clear and measurable outputs and reporting to TEF during the 12-month post-training period for the graduate:
1) Actively support 5-10 farms in Tuscany in the regenerative agriculture transition (depending on farm size and complexity), activities include baseline assessments, transition planning, monitoring, and farmer coaching;
2) Contribution to 2–4 knowledge-sharing activities such as:
- Guest lectures or workshops at universities or agricultural schools;
- Talks or panels at TEF-supported events or partner gatherings;
- Field days or farm walks in Tuscany.
3) Provide 2 short written reports (one every 6 months) including:
- Farms supported and type of interventions;
- Key learnings and challenges from the field;
- Reflections on impact and scalability
