Rethinking Water Management: Insights from the Montalbano Seminar

On April 18, Tuscany Environment Foundation (TEF), in collaboration with the Biodistrict of Montalbano, organized a seminar dedicated to water management at Villa di Papiano, in Lamporecchio.

The initiative brought together over 50 participants from diverse backgrounds, including active citizens, farmers, agronomists, architects, researchers, and institutional representatives, creating a valuable opportunity for dialogue and exchange on one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.

Throughout the day, participants shared perspectives, critical issues, and potential solutions related to water resource management, highlighting the importance of an integrated and collaborative approach.

The seminar was enriched by the contribution of key institutional and territorial stakeholders, including the Consorzio di Bonifica del Basso Valdarno, the Order of Agronomists and Foresters of Pistoia, researchers and academics from the University of Florence (DAGRI), representatives of the Tuscany Region, and the municipalities of Lamporecchio and Carmignano.

Among the main contributions, the talk by Lorenzo Costa offered insights into terraced landscapes and their relationship with water management, connecting historical practices with future-oriented strategies. The roundtable discussion represented a central moment of the seminar, fostering an open and constructive dialogue among institutions, professionals, and local actors.

In the afternoon session, Dr. Preti and Dr. Dani (DAGRI, University of Florence) focused on the management and restoration of water systems in terraced landscapes, providing further technical and scientific perspectives.

The seminar confirmed the importance of creating spaces for interdisciplinary exchange, where knowledge, experience, and local practices can converge to address environmental challenges in a concrete and effective way.

TEF thanks all participants and partners who contributed to the success of the initiative.
